TVE2, commonly known as "La 2" ("La Dos") (literally, The Two), is Spain's second state-owned television channel for the public broadcasting service. Its first broadcast was on November 15, 1966. Unlike sister channel TVE1 ("La 1"), it is not an overtly populist channel, and rather like BBC Two in the UK is famous for a more "intellectual" style of programming (often popular with university students) featuring wildlife documentaries, classic films from home and abroad, more "alternative" American TV series - Will & Grace, Six Feet Under, Veronica Mars etc. - and investigative reporting.
However, TVE2 has a very low audience rating, the lowest among nation-wide TV channels.
Unlike the BBC, both TVE channels show commercials during and between progammes, although recent developments of the Government's TV policy has hinted at the possible removal of all kinds of advertising from the channel.
